About us

Who we are

The farm has been in the Lumb family since 1899. C J Lumb has worked full-time at Exley Hall Farm since leaving school in 1956, eventually taking over in 1970. Edward Lumb worked full time on the farm from leaving school in 1995 for 3 years, then part time from 1998-2007. Edward returned in June 2007, and became a partner in the business after becoming joint tenants on the neighbours land in 2004. The Lumbs are the only farmers on the small piece of land separating Halifax from Elland. With farming becoming increasingly tough, a decision was made to grow a new arm to the business that could both generate income, and run cohesively with the farming operation. We began speaking to gardeners and landscapers in the area, offering them a facility for the safe disposal of green waste, for a low cost. Green Waste Recycling was the resulting business expansion. Our resulting compost has the benefit of being 100% organic, and is much more environmentally friendly than landfilling garden waste.

CJ Lumb passed away in November 2020 and Edward took the decision to cease the green waste operation. He now runs everything on his own.
